Nov 21, 2023 (newstodate): Martinair Cargo did not last long with its online freighter service in the Norwegian seafood market.
The last flight on the route connecting Oslo Airport and Amsterdam for onward connection to the US markets was thus operated on October 24, 2023.
The service was launched only on August 15, 2023, with Martinair operating a weekly Boeing 747-400F flying in from Chicago with US exports and heading back to Amsterdam with seafood shipments to be transferred on KLM/Martinair Cargo flights to the global marketplace.
-The freighter operation was actually exploiting a temporary situation with space available on the return flights from Chicago to Amsterdam, Joep Aalders, Air France KLM Martinair Market Director North Europe sais at Blue Water Norway's seafood logistics seminar in Oslo last week.
-As capacity on the freighter flights from Chicago to Amsterdam is currently not available, Oslo lost the seafood freighter opportunity. We are, however, currently discussing future opportunities in this market as well, said Mr Aalders.
