Nov 29, 2023 (newstodate): Kazakhstan's national carrier, Air Astana is planning for an IPO in 2024.
The carrier aims at becoming listed on the London Stock Exchange, today being owned 49 percent by the British company Bae Systems, while the majority 51 percent are held by a sovereign fund owned by the Kazakh state.
Launched in September 2001, Air Astana attracted investments from Bae Systems in 2002 expected to clear the road for sale of radar systems to Kazakhstan - which failed due to Russian pressure.
In 2002, UK national Lloyd Paxton was named Air Astana CEO, leading the carrier for three years during the crucial starting phase.
The carrier has since grown in size and scope, now operating a fleet of 29 aircraft serving a network comprising 67 destinations.
