Nov 02, 2023 (newstodate): While still absent from the map on Iraqi Airways' website, Copenhagen seems to be returning in this winter's schedule
According to market information, Iraqi Airways will indeed return flights starting from November 12, 2023, on the route between Baghdad and Copenhagen as part of a package comprising also the opening of routes to four German destinations including Berlin.
After a long period of suspension, Iraqi Airways reintroduced flights to Europe, including to Denmark, with the first flights on August 6, 2016, from Baghdad, Basra and Najaf to Copenhagen Airport.
The flights were however suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Iraqi Airways has been on the EU Air Safety Black List since 2015, barring it from own operations into the EU while remaining free to operate flights with aircraft leased from EU certified airlines.
On July 16, 2015, EASA revoked its Third Country Operator Authorization to Iraqi Airways, required for airlines to operate within EU airspace.
Until then, Iraqi Airways had been operating flights between Stockholm Arlanda and Baghdad, Najaf and Erbil in Iraq as well as flights between Copenhagen Airport and Baghdad and Erbil.
