Nov 09, 2023 (newstodate): Starting from this coming Sunday, November 12, Iraqi Airways will return flights on the route connecting Baghdad and Copenhagen.
The carrier will be offering two weekly rotations on the route - with no further details currently available.
Iraqi Airways has been on the EU Air Safety Black List since 2015, barring it from own operations into the EU while remaining free to operate flights with aircraft leased from EU certified airlines.
Earlier, the route was served on a wet-lase contract with Slovakia's Air Explore, but it remains to be seen which carrier will be the operator as the route returns.
After a long period of suspension, Iraqi Airways reintroduced flights to Denmark from August 6, 2016, from Baghdad, Basra and Najaf to Copenhagen Airport.
The flights were however suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, while slated to return already in 2022 - which did not materialize.
On July 16, 2015, EASA revoked its Third Country Operator Authorization to Iraqi Airways, required for airlines to operate within EU airspace.
Until then, Iraqi Airways had been operating flights between Stockholm Arlanda and Baghdad, Najaf and Erbil in Iraq as well as flights between Copenhagen Airport and Baghdad and Erbil.
