Nov 14, 2023 (newstodate): Unabated by public opinion, Georgian Airways continues to rebuild its traffic to Russia.
As the latest move, Georgian Airways has announced the resumption of flights on the route between Tbilisi and St Petersburg as well as the route connecting Batumi and Moscow Vnukovo Airport, both starting from December 2024.
Flights on the two have been suspended since 2019 and 2021, respectively.
The relation between Russia and Georgia soured after Russia's war on Georgia in 2008, ending with the secession of Georgia's South Ossetia by Russian-backed separatists.
The strained relations between the two countries has caused a rift between Georgia's currently pro-Russian government and the country's president that remains adamant in her opposition to Russia.
The president has thus criticized Georgian Airways' resumption of flights to Russia - causing the airline to ban the president from its flights!!
