Nov 22, 2023 (newstodate): The Chinese regulator CAAC has approved new route openings by the country's international airlines.
Among the new routes is Beijing-Helsinki, to be operated up to seven times weekly by China Southern Airlines, the list reads while offering no data on launch date.
Actually, even if Southern Airlines is granted the rights to operate the route, the carrier's decision may still remain in the balance pending the outcome of commercial considerations.
So far, Finavia is not aware of concrete preparations concerning opening of the route by China Southern.
-We do not have any information on this route, and according to our knowledge China Southern has not applied for slots at Helsinki Airport from Nordic Airport Coordination, Finavia responds to newstodate's inquiry.
Finnair's scheduled passenger flights to Beijing have been suspended since February 2020 due to the corona pandemic, and plans to reopen flights on the route were later dipped due to the closure of the Russian airspace.
