Nov 09, 2023 (newstodate): After a period of absence, Emirates SkyCargo is to return to Oslo Airport with freighter services.
Starting later this month, the carrier will operate a weekly Boeing 777F freighter service from Oslo to Dubai adding some 100 tonnes of capacity to the capacity on the airline's passenger flights on the route, each lifting 30-40 tonnes of Norwegian seafood.
Emirates SkyCargo first launched dedicated freighter services at Oslo Airport on October 11, 2016, initially with one weekly flight.
During the corona pandemic, passenger flights were suspended and Emirates then operated up to five weekly all-cargo flights.
In 2022, Emirates SkyCargo generated 18,000 tonnes of cargo on the carrier's passenger flights; in 2020 volumes were 14,250 tonnes - and during the first five years 2014-19 with Emirates operating at Oslo Airport volumes were 105,000 tonnes, pax and freighter volumes combined.
Menzies took over the handling of Emirates at Oslo Airport from June 12, 2017, replacing the contract with Aviator that had been provider since Emirates became online at Oslo.
Cargo handling at Oslo Airport is provided by GPC, Gardermoen Perishables Center, while sales and marketing of Emirates SkyCargo's products is provided by Scanpartners Int'l.
