Nov 16, 2023 (newstodate): Long rumored, now it's a fact: the Canadian carrier WestJet will indeed launch flights to Iceland in 2024.
   With the first rotation in May 2024, WestJet will offer four weekly flights to Iceland from Calgary Keflavik Airport as the only airline providing direct connectivity between Calgary and Iceland.
   The coming new service will be part of WestJet's interline agreement with Icelandair, enabling passengers to travel across Icelandair and WestJet’s networks via one boarding pass and by a single check-in.
   In October 2023, the Canadian Transportation Agency approved a license for WestJet to operate a scheduled international service in accordance with the Arrangement between the Government of Canada and the Government of Iceland, set out in an agreed minute signed on July 11, 2007.
   With its main base at Calgary, WestJet operates a fleet comprising 112 Boeing 737 and 787 aircraft of various types, including four Boeing 737-800BCF aircraft.
   The decision to pursue non-stop service to Iceland forms part of WestJet's efforts to turn Calgary International Airport into a "single global connecting hub" for long-haul flights.
   Serving air connection between Canada and Iceland are today Icelandair with flights from Keflavik to Toronto and Vancouver, and Play operating flights from Keflavik to John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport.
