Nov 15, 2023 (newstodate): While total belly cargo volumes on legacy carriers at Copenhagen Airport are still down on last year, October 2023 did augur some hope for a rebound.
In January-October '23, the airport handled a total of 77,687 tonnes of belly cargo which was 13 percent down, y-o-y.
However, belly cargo volumes in October were actually up by 2.2 percent y-o-y, which proved to be the first month in 2023 with positive growth in this importnt segment.
Another positive development was seen in cargo volumes on legacy freighters, totaling 1,723 tonnes in the first 10 months of this, spurred by a growing number of ad-hoc operations carrying humanitarian aid to disaster and war areas from UNICEF's Global Supply Hub in Copenhagen, Denmark.
In all of 2022, Copenhagen Airport handled only 105 tonnes of cargo by legacy carriers against over 70,000 tonnes in peak years.
The positive trend in freighter cargo will continue thanks to the launch of Lufthansa Cargo's two weekly Airbus A321F operations at the airport since September 28, 2023, as well as the introduction on March 12, 2023, of Ethiopian Airlines Cargo's weekly freighter service flying in from the carrier's main European hub at Liege and continuing directly to Addis
