Nov 03, 2023 (newstodate): Sweden's Stockholm Airport is finally seeing a long-awaited addition to its long-haul route network.
After decade-long efforts and negotiations, Swedavia is greeting the decision by Air Canada to launch flights in 2024 to Stockholm Airport from two Canadian airports, Toronto and Montreal.
June 12, 2024, will see the opening of flights between Toronto and Stockholm, to be served two times weekly with Boeing 787 aircraft.
As a novelty at Stockholm Airport, Air Canada is also to launch flights to Montreal on June 14, 2024, to be served on a seasonal basis with three weekly rotations also using Boeing 787 aircraft.
In 2024, Air Canada will also be increasing capacity on its year-round Copenhagen flights from Toronto with daily flights beginning May 1, 2024, until October 31, and will resume seasonal flights from Montreal earlier on May 2, 2024, increasing up to five weekly flights in June.
In summer 2024, Air Canada will thus be operating up to 17 weekly flights this summer from Toronto and Montreal to Stockholm and Copenhagen, signalling a strategic expansion of its presence in Scandinavia.
Air Canada first launched regular scheduled services to Scandinavia with flights from Toronto to Copenhagen starting from June 24, 2010.
In 2023, the airline expanded its presence in Copenhagen with the addition of new flights from Montreal to Copenhagen starting from June 2, 2023.
But the airline was actually serving flights from Toronto to Copenhagen already from 2003, offering seasonal charter services during the summer season only.
With up to 17 Scandinavian flights by Air Canada, the Scandinavian air cargo markets will also benefit from more access to and from the North American markets.
