Oct 31, 2023 (newstodate): Iceland's Keflavik Airport remains on a positive growth trajectory as to cargo growth in 2023.
During the first nine months of this year, the airport has handled a total of 43,930 tonnes of cargo which is an increase by 8.4 percent, y-o-y.
The growth is driven by freighter traffic that generated 31,331 tonnes of cargo, up 31.6 percent during Q1-Q3/2023.
Still, the airport's volume of belly cargo fared differently, ending 24.6 percent below last year's performance, totaling 12,599 tonnes.
During the same period, import volumes were up by 7.5 percent, y-o-y, to 12,260 tonnes, while export volumes also increased by nine percent to 27,669 tonnes.
In March 2023, Isavia published a new, revised master plan also looking into prospects for growth in air cargo where the airport will need a new cargo aircraft apron area, cargo facilities, freight forwarding and administrative facilities.
