Oct 05, 2023 (newstodate): Poland is planning for construction of a new green-field, multi-modal mega airport, Centralny Port Kommunikacyjny - Central Communication Port - to be located approximately 45 km Southwest of Warsaw, and replacing Warsaw Chopin Airport from 2028.
The Polish government is now close to selecting a strategic partner and minority owner to manage the new Warsaw airport under development, with the Vinci Group and South Korea’s Incheon International Airport Corp known to be among the contenders.
The new airport will have two runways and be designed to handling of up to 40 million passengers per year in the first phase, with capacity to grow to 100 million passengers.
By 2060, the airport aims to have three parallel runways and capacity to handle 65 million passengers annually.
The government expects the constructions works to be completed in 2027, allowing for operating the new airport from 2028 and shutting down Warsaw Chopin Airport that has reached the ceiling at 20 mio passengers per year.
