Oct 04, 2023 (newstodate): The opening by the end of 2024 of new airports in Greenland with Transatlantic capabilities will open up for new international traffic and competition.
As one project looming, the Canadian airline Canadian North and Air Greenland signed a LoI in 2020 to explore partnership opportunities for air services and tourism development between Greenland and Canada.
The process was however stalled as the coronavirus pandemic gained pace.
The project did survive the pandemic - and talks will now be resumed later this month as representatives from Canadian North will travel to Iceland to meet with Air Greenland in Reykjavik, a source close to the project told newstodate on October 3.
Together, the two signatories will explore partnership opportunities for air services and tourism development between Greenland and Canada.
-Now it’s time to start looking ahead to partnering on flights through Ottawa-Iqaluit-Nuuk and Ottawa-Iqaluit-Ilulissat, Canadian North Executive Chairman Johnny N. Adams said in an interview with a Canadian media in 2020.
-We would also like to connect Greenland directly with southern Canada, possibly via Toronto during the tourism season, which includes March, April and August to October.
