Oct 25, 2023 (newstodate): Lithuania's Kaunas airport has contracted the construction company HISK to undertake the expansion of the airport's northern apron.
The works slated for completion by spring will start as soon as the contractor receives the performance guarantee.
The project will offer additional aircraft parking and engine testing areas to increase the number of aircraft parking plots at Kaunas Airport by more than 50 percent.
When completed, the addition space will ease the load on the existing parking lots, while expanding the capacity to accommodate and park more aircraft, as well as providing safe aircraft engine testing in specially adapted, dedicated bays.
The project will also benefit the operations by NATO forces that are operating a large volume of flights at Kaunas Airport.
Alongside this project, the airport is also soon to announce a contractor for expansion of Kaunas Airport's passenger terminal, another essential constituents of the Lithuanian Airports strategic plan.
On December 1, 2022, the state-owned company Lithuanian Airports announced the Dutch company Royal HaskoningDHV winner of the tender for a master plan analyzing and preparing for a long-term network development of Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga airports.
The Dutch company is now working out a 10-years master plan by analyzing the development potentials and alternatives of the three airports of Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga, as well as focusing on the specific strengths of the individual airports, routes expansion, and increasing the capacity of the passenger and cargo terminals.
