Oct 05, 2023 (newstodate): Cargo volumes in the first nine months of this year were sliding by six percent, y-o-y, at Sweden's Jonkoping Airport.
The decline was driven by the drop in volumes of air cargo that were down by 16 percent to 1,822 tonnes during the period.
In the opposite direction were mail volumes that increased by no less than 59 percent, y-o-y, to 502 tonnes.
Behind the steep increase in mail shipments are PostNord Sweden's mail flights operated under the contract with the Swiss carrier Zimex.
Starting from January 31, 2022, PostNord Sweden has been performing nightly flights on weekdays between Stockholm Arlanda and Jonkoping Airport, adding flights from Jonkoping to Arlanda from June this year, further bolstering the mail volumes handled at the airport.
Summing up, Jonkoping Airport saw its total cargo and mail volumes reaching 2,324 tonnes in January-September 2014.
On the passenger side, the airport handled 16,691 passengers in Q1-Q3, an increase by 39 percent, y-o-y, all traveling on charter flights.
