Oct 30, 2023 (newstodate): With the end of the summer 2023 schedule, SAS also ended the program of flights from Gothenburg and Aalborg to New York Newark.
   Today, SAS confirms that the routes will not return on next year's summer schedule.
   -The routes Aalborg-New York and Gothenburg-New York will not be operated during the summer traffic program 2024, and flights AAL-EWR and GOT-EWR are closed for sale in the GDS's, says SAS in its Sales Information out today.
   Both new routes were opened on April 27, 2023, with three weekly rotations announced as seasonal services and slated to return again from the summer 2024 schedule - but SAS may have found the markets for these projects too thin and in competition to its existing New York services from Denmark and Sweden.
   In both cases, the route openings were facilitated by SAS' fleet of new Airbus A321LR aircraft that offer long-haul flight economies on thinner routes, and the need to open new revenue streams for the carrier that still flies in challenging financial clouds and currently under Chapter 11-protection.
