Oct 25, 2023 (newstodate): Copenhagen Airport saw its total cargo volumes down by 9.1 percent, y-o-y, in the first nine months of this year.
A total of 205,503 tonnes of cargo was handled, flown and trucked loads on legacy and integrator carriers combined.
In September 2023 alone, volumes were still down 5.3 percent, y-o-y, to 12,294 tonnes, which was also some 20 percent less than in pre-covid 2019 figures.
Legacy carriers generated 139,354 tonnes in September '23, down 9.8 percent, of which 68,462 tonnes were flown belly cargo, down 15 percent.
Still comparatively low on all-freighter cargo by legacy carriers, volumes were still up to 1,254 tonnes during Jan-Sep '23, compared to a mere 105 tonnes in Jan-Dec '22.
On the bright side, Lufthansa Cargo launched a weekly service on September 28, 2023, to Helsinki, continuing to Copenhagen and returning to Lufthansa Cargo's hub at Frankfurt Airport.
Copenhagen will also soon be served with a second freighter on a once-weekly basis directly to and from Frankfurt.
Adding further to the airport's cargo business potentials is Etihad Airways with the first flight from Abu Dhabi on September 29, 2023.
The carrier is now offering four weekly rotations on the route, operated with Boeing 787-9 aircraft, expected to go for not least the exports of pharma products out of Copenhagen Airport.
