Jan 09, 2023 (newstodate): While Thai Airways has resumed post-Covid services to Denmark and Sweden, the carrier remains offline in the Norwegian market.
Now unofficial sources and media report signs that the carrier is planning for a return on the route connecting Oslo and Bangkok again from summer 2023.
Thainytt thus claims that Thai Airways is currently evaluating bids from providers of ground handling services at Oslo Airport for three weekly operations to start from late June; until the suspension of flights to Oslo, the carrier was handled by SAS Ground Handling.
Other sources report that former Thai Airways staff have been approached for possible reemployment.
Thai Airways suspended all Scandinavian services from April 1, 2020, as the Covid-19 pandemic deepened, returning flights to Copenhagen again from Bangkok to Copenhagen Airport since July 17, 2020, and to Stockholm from October 2021.
In Norway, hopes were to see Thai Airways returning earlier in 2022 - but this did not happen; the airline's office remained closed and staff was laid off.
Thai started operating flights to Oslo from June 15, 2009, offering five weekly flights that are also of great importance to Norway's seafood exporters.
