Jan 23, 2023 (newstodate): The closure of the Russian airspace has a deep impact on cargo volumes handled at Latvia's Riga Airport in 2022.
The airport thus closed the door to 2022 with a drop in cargo by 24 percent, y-o-y, handling a total of 21,119 tonnes of cargo and mail.
Actually, the year started out in a grand style with cargo volumes up in January and February by 28 and 66 percent, y-o-y, respectively - but then decline took over, ending with a drop by 47 percent in both November and December.
However, behind the over-all drop in volumes in 2022, a new positive trend is developing: the volume of belly cargo on passenger aircraft is increasing as the passenger traffic picks up again.
