Jan 18, 2023 (newstodate): The Norwegian LCC Flyr is diversifying its business model to seek new revenue streams to balance seasonal changes in its scheduled traffic.
Basically established to provide scheduled route traffic, the carrier is seeking a foothold in the charter segments as well, and has now landed a contract with the Norwegian tour operator Ving to provide capacity for flights from Norwegian airports to points in the Mediterranean and Canaries during the coming summer schedule.
The schedule will comprise flights by Flyr during June-September 2023 from Oslo to Chania and Tenerife, and to Palma from Stavanger, Bodo, and Trondheim.
In December 2022, Flyr also filed an application with the U.S. Department of Transportation for a permit to operate non-scheduled charter and wet-lease flights in and out of the U.S, aiming at the winter 2023 season.
In Flyr's fleet are now six Boeing 737-800 and six Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft.
