Jan 31, 2023 (newstodate): The Norwegian-owned Swedish airline Braathens Regional Airways has established a new subsidiary: Braathens International Airways.
Set up with an own AOC, Braathens' second, the new carrier starts out with one Airbus A319 aircraft originally delivered to easyJet in 2004, and Braathens International Airways will provide capacity primarily for its mother company on wet-lease contracts.
In 2022, the carrier placed orders for delivery of five Airbus A319 aircraft to be placed on the charter market, with tour operators Ving and Spies as lead customers in summer 2023.
The aircraft are delivered on lease contracts and will serve Ving and Spies with flights from airports in Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
Today, Braathens is operating only 13 ATR72-600 turboprop aircraft after deciding, in 2019, to phase out its fleet of 10 AVRO RJ100 and RJ85 jet aircraft.
