Jan 23, 2023 (newstodate): Maersk Air Cargo is progressing towards launch of operations at Denmark's Billund Airport - but still with delays, compared to earlier plans.
-We are moving towards going live, and expectations are now that the first Boeing 767 freighter will lift off from Billund before the end of March, says Peter Corfitsen, Maersk Air Cargo CEO.
-But there are still some uncertainties concerning the final timing; the aircraft are still under delivery and registration, and various permits concerning oversea operations are also not fully in place, says Mr Corfitsen.
Originally, Maersk Air Cargo expected to take delivery of two converted aircraft before the end of 2022, seeing the first Boeing 767 freighter entering commercial service before the start of 2023.
In the first phase, and in addition to serving Star Air's integrator customers from European hubs as hitherto, Maersk Air Cargo will allocate three converted Boeing 767 freighters to be based at Denmark's Billund Airport for cargo flights between Europe and China, adding two new ex-factory Boeing 777F aircraft in late 2024, primarily dedicated to serving customers of Maersk Group companies.
