Jan 10, 2023 (newstodate): Independent of the management by state-owned company Lithuanian Airports, the country's "fourth international airport" at Siauliai is determined to bolster its position in the air cargo market.
The Board of Siauliai International Airport has now approved the airport’s strategy for 2023–2025, outlining steps to achieving the long-term strategic goal of becoming a consistently growing cargo airport in the region.
According to the board of Siauliai Airport, the auction for the last remaining plot of 2.3 hectares allocated to cargo and logistics activities will be opened by the end of January, and hopes are to attract investors to set up new cargo-related business at the airport.
Also contributing to the efforts to boost the airport's cargo business is the appointment of a dedicated Commercial Manager Cargo to analyze market potentials and seek new air cargo business and customers.
In 2022, the freight forwarding company Rava Cargo opened a neutral customs warehouse at the airport, becoming the first commercial cargo operator at Siauliai Airport.
A former Soviet air base, Siauliai Airport operates a 3,500 m CAT 1 runway - the longest in the Baltic region - and a second 3,280 m runway, and is a military/commercial airport owned jointly by Lithuania's Ministry of Defense and Siauliai Municipality.
