Jan 23, 2023 (newstodate): Lithuania is working for seeing direct nonstop flights to long-haul markets, including especially the US and Dubai.
According to the Lithuanian media DELFI, the Lithuanian Ministry of Transport has placed efforts to open the US market to Lithuanian air carriers among this year's key objectives.
Early in 2023, the US Federal Aviation Administration will conduct an audit of the Lithuanian aviation sector, after which a decision will be made on the possibility of aircraft registered in Lithuania to operate flights to the USA.
According to the ministry, the process from the audit to the final decision to grant the right to Lithuanian air carriers to operate flights to the USA could take a maximum of six months, but a faster procedure is expected.
Once Lithuanian carriers have been granted access, they will be free to operate cargo flights and enter wet-lease agreements with US carriers, opening up new venues for the country's aviation industry.
Launch of passenger flights between Lithuania and the USA, notably to New York, will depend on market potentials as well as suitable aircraft such as the Airbus A321XLR and Airbus A321LR.
Lithuania is also working for seeing a Gulf carrier opening direct flights to the country - a process already running for years.
