Jan 09, 2023 (newstodate): Finnair Cargo saw cargo volumes in January-December 2023 increasing 16.9 percent, y-o-y, to a total of 122,719 tonnes.
While an improvement on last year, this is still a far cry from volumes in pre-Covid 2019 that generated 173,282 tonnes of cargo.
Volumes carried on the Asian lanes were 57,441 tonnes, an increase by 37.6 percent, y-o-y, but again reflecting the changed market situation compared to 2019 when the Asian loads reached 123,953 tonnes.
Re-directing capacity to the North Atlantic market, Finnair Cargo lifted a total of 30,642 tonnes in 2022, a steep growth by 127.4 percent, y-o-y, also compared to 2019 that saw 13,574 tonnes in this segment.
The European cargo segment also performed well with 25,213 tonnes and rising 441.6 percent, y-o-y, in 2022, but considerably less than 2019 with 35,182 tonnes driven by the transfer of shipments from Europe to Asia.
-As a result of the Russian airspace closure, many cargo figures declined year-on-year in December; however, most cargo figures improved month-on-month, says Finnair on a positive note.
