Jan 06, 2023 (newstodate): Work is still progressing for launch of FarCargo, the coming new cargo airline on the Faroe Islands - but with delays...
Citing a delay in delivery of the Boeing 757-200 converted freighter acquired by Farcargo's key driver and prime investor Bakkafrost, the process has run into delays while other preconditions for launch of services have continued unabated, including the hiring and certification of so far half of the pilot crews at a base in France.
Originally, plans were to take delivery of the aircraft placed on the AOC of West Atlantic Sweden already by early December 2022; the aircraft would first be starting out operating on a contract for cargo flights within Europe for a month or so.
After that, flights from Vagar Airport to the first US destination, New York Newark Airport, would commence in January or February 2023 with an initial frequency of three to five monthly rotations from Vagar Airport, carrying Faroese seafood for the prime owner of the airline, Bakkafrost, and be put on the general cargo market for uplift from the USA to Europe, returning to the Faroe Islands via Copenhagen Airport.
According to FarCargo, expectations are now to take delivery of the aircraft in this year's Q1.
