Jan 05, 2023 (newstodate): Denmark's Billund Airport rounded off 2022 with all-year cargo volumes almost unchanged against the preceding year.
A total of 76,874 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport - only 0.4 percent below volumes in 2021.
Exports are the key driver in cargo and volumes increased by 0.5 percent to 58,594 tonnes in 2023, while imports dipped 3.1 percent to 18,280 tonnes.
December 2022 performed less positively, with a drop by 10.2 percent, y-o-y, to 5,770 tonnes comprising 4,567 tonnes of exports, down 4.6 percent, and 1,203 tonnes of imports that dropped even more by 26.3 percent.
With the first flight on January 3, 2022, Billund Airport saw the Icelandic cargo carrier Bluebird Nordic going online with flights coming in from Keflavik to Billund, continuing to Bonn/Cologne Airport and returning along the same route in a cooperation with UPS that has long been serving the route between Billund and Cologne with an ATP aircraft operated by West Atlantic.
And boding well for further development at Billund Airport in 2023 is the coming opening in 2023 of Maersk Air Cargo's European hub at the airport.
