Sep 08, 2022 (newstodate): Lithuania's "fourth international airport" at Siauliai is determined to capitalize on its potentials in the air cargo market.
Siauliai Airport has now announced three new independent members joining the Board: Andrius Antanaitis, Strike Aviation LT Mng Dir as well as Strike Aviation Group Director of Business Development for Europe; Jonas Grincius, representing the banking and financial sector, and Kazys Pupinis, head of the Estonian start-up Eleport.
Continuing on the Board are the representatives of its shareholder Siauliai City Municipality Brigita Mareckiene, Chairman of the Board, and Ligita Balsiene, chief specialists of the Economics and Investment Department, and Aurelija Kuezada, Siauliai International Airport Director.
-Siauliai Airport is in the development stage and is ready to use its potential. In order for it to be able to attract air cargo carriers, it is necessary to focus on the issues of creating the necessary infrastructure and address other aspects that are currently relevant in the air transportation segment, including infrastructure solutions, efficiency, and ecology. There is considerable competition in the market, but Siauliai has both its advantages and potential, says Andrius Antanaitis in a Lithuanian media interview.
Earlier this year, the freight forwarding company Rava Cargo opened a neutral customs warehouse at the airport, becoming the first commercial cargo operator at Siauliai Airport.
Siauliai Airport is also seeing growth in the MRO market with the aircraft maintenance company Aviatic MRO planning for a future with aircraft P2F conversions, and currently constructing a 23,000 sq m aircraft maintenance and repair center at Siauliai International Airport, scheduled to start operations in 2022.
In September 2020, Aviatic landed an MoU with Israel's leading aerospace and MRO company, Israel Aerospace Industrie that will provide Aviatic with necessary licensing and know-how to perform P2F conversions of B737NG passenger aircraft.
A former Soviet air base, Siauliai Airport operates a 3,500 m CAT 1 runway - the longest in the Baltic region - and a second 3,280 m runway, and is a military/commercial airport owned jointly by Lithuania's Ministry of Defense and Siauliai Municipality.
