Sep 07, 2022 (newstodate): The Scandinavian carrier SAS is currently operating a fleet of 111 aircraft - but a deep cut is looming.
As part of the ongoing Chapter 11 process as a precondition for realizing its SAS Forward restructuring through cost reductions, the carrier is to let go of 10 leased aircraft, or almost one-tenth of the fleet.
On the list are two Airbus A350-900 leased from Fuyo General Lease, three A330-300 leased from Bocomm Leasing, three A320neo leased from SMBC Aviation Capital, one Airbus A321 leased from Itochu, and a Boeing 737-700 aircraft leased from AerCap.
This would leave SAS with four Airbus A350, five Airbus A330-300, 42 Airbus A320neo, eight Airbus A321.
The fleet reduction will free SAS from leasing costs on excess aircraft capacity; only 20 aircraft are directly owned by the carrier.
However, SAS still hold orders for delivery of 24 Airbus A320neo and two Airbus A350-900 aircraft.
