Sep 23, 2022 (newstodate): The Russian president's call for a partial mobilization has had an immediate impact on the country's airline industry.
According to unofficial media reports, Russian airlines stopped selling tickets to Russian men aged 18-65 unless they can provide evidence of approval to travel from the Ministry of Defense.
All flights from Russia to available foreign destinations were sold out shortly after the "call", while flights from Moscow to the capitals of Georgia, Turkey and Armenia were unavailable within minutes of Putin’s announcement, according to Russia’s top travel planning website aviasales.ru.
Within hours, direct flights from Moscow to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan also disappeared from the website.
However, in contrast to this unofficial information, the head of Russia’s tourism agency claims that no restrictions have been imposed on travelling abroad, and Aeroflot also claimed it was not limiting ticket sales.
