Sep 13, 2022 (newstodate): Ahead of the forthcoming conference in Oslo on September 19, The Future of Norwegian Seafood Air Logistics 2022, the latest statistics from Oslo Airport paint a rather modest picture on flown cargo trends.
Air cargo capacity to lift Norwegian seafood to overseas markets plays a key role for the industry, and the closure of Russian airspace and scarcity of uplift capacity to Asian markets runs against the exporters' needs.
In August 2022, Oslo Airport thus saw a modest increase by only two percent, y-o-y, in flown international cargo, to 10,857 tonnes, but the first eight months of this year have seen flown cargo volumes 11 percent below volumes in 2021, to 76,915 tonnes.
Oslo Airport may be pinning some hopes for a rebound in cargo with the new carrier Norse Atlantic Airways' Transatlantic flights from Oslo with Boeing 787-9 aircraft that can lift some 20 tonnes of cargo on fully-booked departures.
The carrier is now in the air on routes from Oslo to New York since June 14, 2022, with two weekly rotations, going up to three from the second week, followed by the opening of flights from Oslo to Fort Lauderdale from June 18, with two weekly rotations; flights to Orlando started from July 5, 2022, with three rotations - and finally flights to Los Angeles followed from August 9, with three weekly rotations.
