Sep 26, 2022 (newstodate): Rumors circulating in the industry have now been confirmed: Norwegian is to end its handling cooperation since 2015 with Menzies Aviation at Oslo, with effect from March 22, 2023.
Replacing Menzies will be Red Handling that is also to take over de-icing of Norwegian's flights at Oslo Airport from March 2024, today provided by Menzies under a three-year contract signed in December 2021.
-Norwegian has increasingly drawn more and more parts of our production into the company; for example all pilots, cabin staff and customer service staff are today employed directly by Norwegian, says Andreas Hjornholm, Director, Communications & Public Affairs Norwegian Nordics.
-We have also been looking into how to get closer to the handling at Oslo Gardermoen, the largest hub in our network. We expect to be able to provide self-handling before next summer, but this process requires solution to more details in cooperation with our current provider of handling services at Oslo Airport, says Mr Hjornholm.
In 2016, Norwegian set up its own handling company, Red Handling, to serve its flight operations at London Gatwick Airport.
In January 2022, Red Handling however found a new owner: the US company Fenix Logistix Ireland that took over Red Handling from February 1, 2022, as part of its decision to develop business opportunities in Ireland, the UK and throughout Europe.
Fenix Logistix Ireland is part of the Fenix Logistix Inc Group, based in Seattle USA and delivering ground handling services at several US locations along with airline logistical support.
