Sep 12, 2022 (newstodate): Albania's new carrier Air Albania has run into a serious headwind, forcing it to suspend flights.
The Albanian authorities have reportedly stopped the airline as it has not satisfactorily provided the required information on its ownership structure.
The airline will now remain grounded until a fine is paid and the relevant information of the real owners is registered, local media say.
Air Albania performed its first flight on April 19, 2019, managed as CEO by Sinan Dilekthe, who may be remembered in the Nordic aviation circles from his two years as Turkish Airlines General Manager Norway till April 2018.
On July 31, 2018, Air Albania took in its first aircraft, an Airbus A319 aircraft placed with the carrier under a wet-lease contract with Turkish Airlines; on September 22, 2019, this was followed by one Boeing 737-800, also wet-leased from Turkish Airlines, which is also the case with the third aircraft, the Airbus A320.
Supporting the new carrier is Turkish Airlines that has been involved in a feasibility study to assess the needs and the markets as well as an initial route structure.
