Sep 14, 2022 (newstodate): Barred from flights into many international markets due to sanctions, Russia's largest cargo carrier Volga-Dnepr Airlines is kept busy on domestic and certain international routes still open.
One significant customer for the airline is Moscow City that inked a cooperation agreement with Volga-Dnepr Airlines on April 1, 2022, on the urge of the Russian president.
The aim of the agreement is to ensure a stable and fast supply of essential goods to the Central Transport Hub, where a new logistics corridor is being created between Moscow and countries including China, India, Turkey, Vietnam, Azerbaijan, and Pakistan.
Volga-Dnepr will be providing transportation of medicines, medical devices, equipment, components, IT products, communication equipment and other goods, with space available for all customers.
Volga-Dnepr Airlines is expected to carry up to 200,000 tonnes of cargo under this new contract, and since the start of the cooperation with Moscow City the carrier has performed 246 flights lifting some 4,000 tonnes of cargo.
Last statistics provided by Russia after the invasion of Ukraine and the implementation of harsh sanctions on the country show that Volga-Dnepr Airlines generated 4,267 tonnes during the first two months of this year.
