Sep 16, 2022 (newstodate): Bordering Ukraine and living through a troublesome period with threats and pressure from Russia, Moldova's civil aviation was severely affected - but now recovering.
Moldova was severely hit on February 24, 2022, as Russia invaded Ukraine; Moldova's air traffic collapsed down to only 10 percent in February and March.
Moldova's air traffic has now recovered to 80 percent of 2019- levels, with 80 daily flights on average arriving and departing from Chisinau.
Over the last week, Air Moldova has been the busiest carrier with 20 daily arrivals/departures, but only 53 percent of 2019.
On the other hand, second-placed FlyOne is the fastest growing operator, up no less than 173 percent of 2019, with 19 daily arrivals/departures.
#3 is Wizz Air that has recently relaunched operations, and is now averaging 11 daily arrivals and departures - reaching some 92 percent of the traffic in 2019.
Turkey is by far the largest market with 30 percent of the daily flights, followed by Italy and Romania.
