Sep 29, 2022 (newstodate): The Latvian airline airBaltic has published its flight schedule for the upcoming summer '23 season.
In the plan is the opening of 18 new routes from the Baltic markets, including 10 from its home base at Riga, four from Estonia's Tallinn and four from Vilnius in Lithuania - in the case of Tallinn and Vilnius primarily to Mediterranean leisure destinations.
Among the new routes from Riga, the return by April 2, 2023, of four weekly flights to Istanbul attract special attention as this route is already effectively served by Turkish Airlines since April 19, 2006.
Actually, airBaltic earlier opened flights between Riga and Istanbul on May 1, 2005, but pulled out again from May 26, 2014, citing unprofitable operations on the route due to the strong competition from Turkish Airlines that is providing daily flights on the route.
