Sep 05, 2022 (newstodate): Korean Air seems to have lost its earlier strong appetite for summer flights to Croatia.
Earlier, plans were to be operating three weekly rotations for the Korean tour operator Hanjin during the period July 2-October 29, 2022, with Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
Then the schedule was downsized to comprise only of four charter flights between Seoul and Zagreb on September 30, October 7, October 14 and October 21, 2022 - and now the flights in October have been canceled as well, citing low demand in the market.
Contributing to the retreat in the Croatian market may be the airline's decision to finally launch flights starting on October 3, 2022, of a weekly service to Budapest from Seoul Incheon hub, increasing to twice-weekly flights by end-October until the end of the Winter 22/23 season.
Later, the airline is set to increase the frequency to three weekly flights, with the route between the two capital cities operated by Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
Korean Air paid its first-ever visit to Croatia in September 2010, operating two chartered Boeing 777 flights from Seoul to Zagreb Airport on September 18 and 25, respectively, carrying Korean and other Asian tourists on their first visit to the country.
Korean Air next introduced summer flights to Croatia in 2014, and according to the air services agreement signed in 2015 between Croatia and South Korea, Korean Air would be allowed to operate up to seven weekly rotations between the two countries.
Replacing the seasonal summer flights, Korean Air introduced year-round services on the route from September 2018, but the flights were again downgraded to summer-only flights from 2019 - and these flights were then suspended as the Coronavirus hit the markets.
