Sep 01, 2022 (newstodate): New at Hungary's Budapest Airport in 2022 will be Korean Air.
Beginning on October 3, 2022, Korean Air will operate a weekly service to Budapest from Seoul Incheon hub, increasing to twice-weekly fligts by end-October until the end of the Winter 22/23 season.
Later, the airline is set to increase the frequency to three weekly flights, with the route between the two capital cities operated by Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
Many Korean companies are located in Hungary as a result of the Hungarian Government’s investment policy in the car manufacturing industry. In 2019, South Korea thus became the largest investor in Hungary with nearly half of the country's total foreign investment portfolio, while trade between the two markets also increased by one-third, y-o-y, generating strong business traffic in both directions.
The route was actually already set to launch from May 23, 2020, with three weekly rotations during the summer schedule, but plans were suspended due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
But already from February 21, 2020, Korean Air launched a scheduled cargo services between the two destinations, routed Seoul-Budapest-Frankfurt-Seoul with two weekly rotations using Boeing 777F aircraft.
