Sep 13, 2022 (newstodate): The Icelandic member of the Avia Solutions Group, BBN Airlines Holding is now stretching its grip into the Indonesian air cargo market.
BBN is in the process of establishing a new cargo carrier, BBN Airlines Indonesia as of August 31, 2022, based at Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Indonesia, to provide the archipelago with airfreight and logistics services.
-With the growth of exports and imports, and the rapidly expanding e-commerce trend, Indonesia has a promising future for its air cargo and logistics industry. Indonesia is the largest and fastest-growing internet economy, expected to account for half of all e-commerce transactions in Southeast Asia by 2025. We see this as a great opportunity and are excited to develop the cargo airline to fulfil the market needs, says Martynas Grigas, Commissioner of BBN Cargo Airlines Holdings and concurrently FL Technics Indonesia CEO.
BBN Airlines Indonesia is now preparing to land its airline business license, slated for 2022, and expects to achieve its AOC in Q2, 2023.
In January 2018, Iceland's cargo carrier Bluebird Cargo was re-branded and trading under the name Bluebird Nordic to signal a new strategy of business development, and Bluebird Nordic was next acquired 100 percent in January 2020 by Lithuania's Avia Solutions Group.
Bluebird Nordic is to take in a total of 25 Boeing 737-800 converted freighters till 2024, adding to its existing fleet comprising one Boeing 737-300, seven Boeing 737-400 freighters and now three Boeing 737-800.
The carrier is also to build up capacity in the wide-body cargo segment, signing a lease agreement in January 2022 with Dublin-based lessor STLC Europe Twenty Five Leasing Ltd for two Boeing 777-300ER passenger aircraft to be converted to cargo version and offered in the airfreight market by 2024.
