Sep 06, 2022 (newstodate): From the start of the winter schedule end of October 2022, Finnair is returning on five domestic routes in the country.
The carrier has thus won the PSO tender concerning provision of flights to connect Helsinki with the small airports at Joensuu, Jyvaskyla, Kokkola-Pietarsaari, Kemi-Tornio and Kajaani, beating offers by competitors on individual routes from Amapola Flyg, DAT, NyxAir on the price tag.
The flights will be provided by Finnair's subsidiary Norra, but as operational costs are rising due to fuel prices the routes may be served less frequently as originally planned.
According to earlier information by Finavia's Director of Airport Network, Jani Jolkkonen, passengers on the thin routes pay only some 10 percent of the actual costs.
Another 60 percent is covered by taxpayers' contribution to the airline subsidies involved - and the remaining 30 percent of the actual costs are direct losses covered by Finavia itself.
