Sep 30, 2022 (newstodate): With the opening flight on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, Ethiopian Airlines Cargo is now online at Oslo Airport with a weekly freighter service to Guangzhou, China.
But there may be more to come in the near future...
Attending the opening of the new route at Oslo Airport, the company's Managing Director Ethiopian Cargo & Logistics Services, Abel Alemu also met with stakeholders in the Norwegian seafood export industry to discuss business trends and opportunities.
-I have met with our Norwegian partners to deepen our mutual cooperation, and a list has been drawn up comprising new potential destinations favored by exporters, says Mr Alemu in a phone talk with newstodate.
-We can of course not meet all these expectations as we operate only nine Boeing 777-200F freighter aircraft that must all be operated efficiently.
-However, from now on we will focus on consolidating the new route from Oslo to Guangzhou as well as increasing its frequency as warranted by the market. But we are already also considering developing one more China-bound freighter route from Oslo in the not too distant future.
-Imbalance is of course an issue, but this is solved by routing eastbound flights from our key European hubs in Belgium via Oslo. This is already the case with the services from Oslo to Seoul, South Korea, that fly into Oslo from Liege and Brussels. There is little cargo onboard from Belgium to Oslo, so the Norwegian market has almost all capacity on the freighter flights that fly fully booked out of Oslo Airport.
-In September Ethiopian Airlines Cargo has been operating four weekly services from Oslo to Seoul, while this frequency will be reduced by one flight in October 2022 due to operational issues forcing us to optimize our fleet utilization.
-Above all, our cooperation with stakeholders in the Norwegian market builds on commitments from both sides to ensure a lasting and mutually beneficial operation, says Mr Alemu.
