Sep 08, 2022 (newstodate): Sweden's Jonkoping Airport continues its stream of good news on cargo in 2022.
In August '22, the airport handled a total of 239 tonnes of cargo on scheduled flights which was an increase by 17 percent, y-o-y.
This brought the volume of cargo on scheduled flights in January-August to 1,921 tonnes, which is also up by 6.3 percent.
The strongest growth is, however, seen in the ad-hoc and charter operations that generated a total of 303 tonnes of cargo and mail, which is an increase by 48.5 percent, y-o-y, and totaling 2,171 tonnes in the first eight months of this year - also up by 20.1 percent.
Jonkoping Airport's scheduled cargo business builds primarily on FedEx, Time:Matters and DANX connecting the airport with Brussels, Karlsruhe, Oslo, Billund and Helsinki.
Contributing to this segment's development in 2022 is also the return from January 31, 2022, of PostNord Sweden that has reinstated a nightly flight on weekdays from Stockholm Arlanda to Jonkoping Airport, further expanded since May 2, 2022, as PostNord now carries mail also on the return flight from Jonkoping to Stockholm Arlanda.
Still, the strong development in the airport's ad-hoc and charter operations signals a new venue for growth; in 2021, this segment generated only 40 tonnes of cargo and mail - and only eight tonnes in all of 2020.
