Aug 22, 2022 (newstodate): This year's 5th Airbus A220-300 delivery to Latvia's airBaltic is now in the air.
The aircraft started its flight test program on August 14, 2022, and will be delivered to its operator in September, bringing the airline's fleet to 37 units.
airBaltic plans to have a total of 40 Airbus A220-300 aircraft in the fleet by the end of this year, part of airBaltic's order for 50 Airbus A220-300; in addition, airBaltic holds 30 options and purchase rights for the same aircraft type.
With 11 aircraft on wet-lease contracts with other airlines including Eurowings and SAS, and up to six Airbus A220-300 aircraft stuck on the ground due to supply chain distortions, airBaltic has however been forced to lease in other aircraft to cater to its needs.
This summer, airBaltic has thus been operating one Airbus A319 and one Fokker 100 from the Romanian airline Carpatair, as well as one Boeing 737-800 from the Ukrainian carrier SkyUp, one Boeing 737-900 from Ukraine International Airlines, one Boeing 737-800 from the Czech carrier SmartWings, and one Embraer E190 from a yet-unnamed airline.
