Aug 26, 2022 (newstodate): Barred by sanctions from flights into most markets around the world, Russian airlines are fighting hard to come up with new services to generate revenue.
One unique and rather surprising service on offer from September 1, 2022, will see Aeroflot's low-cost arm Pobeda introducing the additional option "smoking on board".
At an extra fee of 1,000 rubles, passengers may purchase rights to smoke onboard flights when booked online, while the charge will be 2,000 rubles if purchased at check-in.
Pobeda says some of their aircraft will be retrofitted with dedicated smoking areas in order to protect non-smoking passengers.
Hopefully, the introduction of the "new" service has been risk-assessed by competent aviation authorities..
