Aug 19, 2022 (newstodate): Serving the Research Triangle Region of North Carolina, USA, Icelandair opened flights from May 12, 2022, from Keflavik Airport.
The route was initially set up as a seasonal service with four weekly rotations using Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft until October 2022.
Now, Icelandair has announced that the route will be operated year-round, albeit with a reduced schedule during the coming winter season but reflecting the positive response in the market for the new route.
The first new international route at Raleigh-Durham Airport since 2019, the Icelandair flight was also the first new route supported by incentives under an air service development program designed to recruit more international flights.
