Aug 04, 2022 (newstodate): Israel's Israir Group is participating in a tender for the purchase of a European air carrier worth between 20 million and 30 million euros, according to a notice on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange.
Based in Tel Aviv, the Israir Group owns Israel's second-largest carrier Israir Airlines that operates a fleet comprising five Airbus A320 and two ATR 72-500 aircraft due to be replaced by more Airbus A320 aircraft.
If the Group's deal wins the tender for the yet-undisclosed airline, Israir Airlines will obtain first of all a valid European Operator's Certificate, opening up for more flexibility in the EU market as well as enhanced access to slots at European airports.
Israir has made several attempts to set up traffic also to the Nordic and Baltic markets, including flights this summer to Keflavik on Iceland and plans for seasonal flights to Riga in summer 2020.
