Aug 09, 2022 (newstodate): Year-on-year cargo growth is slowing down at Finland's Helsinki Airport in 2022.
In July 2022, a total of 12,231 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport, an increase by 5.8 percent, y-o-y, compared to a growth in June by 6.6 percent, in May by 8.9, in April by 11.8 - and by 52.7 percent in January 2022, reflecting the slow recovery in traffic.
The airport is obviously hit hard by the sustained effects from Covid-19 in Asia and the closure of overflights through Russian airspace, crucial to the Asian, notably the Chinese, traffic to and from Finland.
In the meantime, Finnair is turning its focus from Asia to North America, which however still fails in compensating for the shortfall of the Asian volumes.
In July 2022 alone, Helsinki Airport handled 12,079 tonnes of international cargo compared to 11.929 tonnes - an increase by 6.9 percent, y-o-y.
