Aug 25, 2022 (newstodate): Greenland is to take home the management of its upper airspace used by airlines' en-route flights between North America, Europe and Asia.
Today, and since the 1950'ies, the upper airspace FIR is controlled and managed in cooperation between Iceland and Canada, but intentions are that Greenland will take control from 2031.
Supporting the initiative is Denmark's provider of airnav services, Naviair that today operates a control center at Nuuk managing Greenland's lower airspace primarily used for domestic and Greenland-Denmark flights.
The establishing of a new Operations Center in Greenland will require new physical infrastructure, equipment, local recruiting of staff and pertinent training.
