Aug 15, 2022 (newstodate): A scheduled freighter service in the Faroe Islands to lift seafood exports to the US market is soon to lift off on its first flight.
FarCargo has signed a purchase agreement to acquire one Boeing 757-200 aircraft with RR-engines for conversion to freighter, lifting some 35 tonnes of cargo from Vagar Airport to the US seafood market.
FarCargo has been established as an investment company with Regin Jakobsen, Bakkafrost CEO, chairing the Board also comprising pilots Hedin Krett and Hans M. á Hogabol, Andrew Djurhuus, Aeroservice CEO, as well as Birgir Nielsen, who will hold the position as Managing Director of the company.
Expectations are that the first flight will launch by late October/early November 2022, with all capacity sold to Bakkafrost on the westbound flight.
Capacity will then be marketed in the US, European and Faroese markets for the return flight via a destination in Europe, or Denmark.
FarCargo will be operating the flights in a cooperation with West Atlantic that will place the aircraft on its AOC and operate based on own licenses.
