Aug 29, 2022 (newstodate): Finnair is suspending most long-haul flights in winter 2022/23 from its base at Stockholm Airport.
Flights by Finnair from Stockholm to New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Bangkok and Phuket will thus stop from the coming winter schedule, while Finnair's flights on routes from Helsinki Airport to Krabi and Chicago O’Hare will also be suspended during winter 2022/23.
With the opening of long haul flights from Stockholm Airport starting October 2021, Finnair became the airport's leading long haul flights operator, beating SAS that traditionally held the position.
Finnair launched services on the route from Stockholm to New York EWR from December 7, 2021, with three weekly rotations, alongside flights to Los Angeles starting from November 3, 2021, also with three weekly rotations, and adding flights from Stockholm to Miami from October 4, 2021, with four weekly rotations, going up to four rotations from November 29, 2021.
In the summer 2022 season, Finnair even increased the frequencies on the US-bound routes; from May 1, 2022, Finnair has been operating from Stockholm Arlanda to New York daily, and to Los Angeles four times a week.
With the first flight on March 27, 2022, Finnair launched four weekly flights from Arlanda to Dallas, and from June 1, the carrier introduced three weekly flights to Seattle.
Altogether, Finnair has been operating on six routes from Stockholm Arlanda in summer 2022.
Launching long-haul services from Stockholm, Finnair opened a new revenue stream to compensate for the sustained ebb in its key market segment - the Asian traffic from Helsinki.
In the Swedish market, North Air Logistics provides Finnair with cargo GSSA services, while handling of Finnair Cargo is provided by Terminal & Transporttjanst, TT-Terminal.
